Pikelets are yum fluffy things that you eat.
Have you ever wondered how to make pikelets?

First you need to wash your hands.

Next you need to get the ingredients like 1 cup of flour, 1 tsp baking powder, ¼ tsp salt, 1 egg, ¼ cup sugar and ¾ cup of milk approximately.

Then you sift the dry ingredients into a bowl and beat the egg and the sugar together in another bowl. Add the milk and the egg and sugar together so it is smooth and fluffy.

Finally you heat the pan up, then you put the mixture in the frying pan and wait until they have bubbles on the top. Then flip it over and wait until it is golden and then flip it out and eat it.

How to make fluffy pikelets

Have you ever wondered how to make fluffy pikelets?
A pikelet is when you combine three or four things like flour into a bowl.

First you wash your hands really well with the soap and water.

Secondly gather all your ingredients together. The ingredients you need are 1 cup of edmonds standard flour, 1tsp edmonds baking powder, ¼ tsp salt, 1 egg, ¼ cup sugar, approximately ⅓ cup milk, and measure them too.

You sift the flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl, in another bowl beat the egg and sugar with a whisk until pale and thick. Add the egg mixture into the dry ingredients with the milk and stir. Pour spoonfuls into a warm pan.

Next wait until bubbles pop on the top and flip it over.
Then flip it onto the plate.

Finally all of the pikelets are ready to eat.

That's how you make pikelets.

What is a pikelet?  A pikelet is like a pancake but smaller and fatter.

This is how you make them.

First you have to wash your hands.  Then get your ingredients.

We put the dry ingredients in a bowl. We put flour, baking powder and salt.

Then you put the egg and the sugar in another bowl and whisk.

Add the eggs mixture to the dry ingredients and the milk.

Put the butter in the pan and you cook small spoonfuls until they look brown. Then you flip them over on a plate.

When you’re finished  They should smell delicious.

Explanation of making Pikelets by Leejiin

How to make pikelets.

Have you ever wondered how to make a pikelet?
Well Pikelets are a type of food. They are like pancakes.

First you wash your hands before touching food. Then get flour, baking powder, a pan, egg, butter, sugar and a bowl, don’t forget a cup.

Next you sift 1 cup of flour, a teaspoon of baking powder and ¼ teaspoon of salt, in a bowl and mix it.

After that you add the whisked egg, sugar and milk into your dry ingredients. You mix until just combined.

Finally you scoop the whisked batter into the pan with a big spoon. Then wait until the bubbles pop then flip the pikelets over, when they’re golden take the pikelets out of the pan. Now wait for them to cool down.

Now it time to eat the pikelets.

Partly Cloudy

Last week we used this cute little video to inspire our writing. We watched it scene by scene and the children had to describe what they saw using descriptive language and ensuring they had a full stop and capital letter for each sentence.

Partly Cloudy

The bird quickly swooped down to give the gift to the huge dog. Swiftly they swooped through the white shiny clouds. The birds house was the clouds. They have lightning hands. The cloud made a puppy out of a cloud and grabbed the cloud off the puppy and gave it a bone. The dark cloud made a crocodile and then it bit his finger then the bird came over and the cloud wrapped it up and gave the bag to the bird. The goat quickly charged into his stomach. Then the cloud put it in a bag. Slowly the bird picked it up and the goat was jumping around. The hedgehog's spikes poked his wings. The bird came back quickly and saw the shark. The dark cloud squashed the shark and made a storm. But the bird came over with football stuff. Then the cloud made an electric eel.

By Traeh

Speedily the bird dropped the bag down here was a cat. The bird slowly found a cloud house. The cloud made a real pet with magic. One cloud was all by himself and the cloud went to make a baby. The cloud made a baby crocodile and the bird came and the crocodile bit the bird's face. The cloud made a baby goat. Boom!! The bird got hit on the tummy. The goat was in the bag and the goat kept hitting the bird on the face. The cloud made a hedgehog and the bird came back and the cloud pulled the spikes out. Slowly the bird went away from the cloud. The cloud was sad and he looked at another cloud. The bird came back and the cloud made an eel.

By Anthony

Slowly the crazy brown bird laughed through the wind. Lazily the cloud grabbed the zooming birds. Loudly they turned on the lightning and struck the clouds. Sadly the cloud cried out rain.
Finally the crocodile jumped on the brown bird. The teeth from the crocodile bit him.
The bird gazed up at the white cloud. The hedgehog jumped on the bird. Quickly the bird flew away when he saw the shark. Angrily the cloud started to cry. Happily the bird flew back with armour.

By Sunita

Quickly I saw birds swerve through the gentle wind. Happily the white birds burst off power lines and flew through the pink clouds. The clouds were like fluffy people that make presents. They all made cute little animals except for the grey cloud. He made a crocodile and it nearly bit the white bird's head off. The bird that helped the grey cloud was bald and it could hardly fly. The white bird came back to the grey cloud. The cloud had a surprise and it was a goat and it ran into the bird. He came back again and the grey cloud made a hedgehog, a spiky one too, and it pricked the bird. Sadly the white bruised bird flies up to a white cloud. Sadly the cloud split with tears and burst with lightning. The bruised bird came back with amour on just to keep it safe.

Personification writing

Last week we were learning to use personification to make our writing more interesting. Here is a great example of personification writing by Fin which he shared at our assembly.

The Fight

BOOM BOOM! The fight is on. The lightning shot the trees arm off. The trees arm is broken. The thunder scared the lightning away. But the lightning came back, the thunder went crazy. The rain got mad and turned to hail and smashed the ground. The wind made the leaves spin like ballerinas up on stage. All of a sudden all the whistling and growling went quiet. The fight is over.

Mixed Maths Learning

For maths we have started working in small groups to solve multiplication and division problems. We need to work together to solve the problems using a range of different strategies. Everyone in the group must know how to solve the problem so lots of teaching and learning is taking place as they work together.  They are able to use a variety of different resources to help us solve the problems. E.g. Materials, Whiteboards, Explain Everything app on the Ipad.
Here are some pictures of the groups working together and our slide show of the answers and how we have solved them.

Narrative Writing

We are learning to write a narrative.
Our picture inspiration:

(Ball. M. (2005).  Footrot Flats: Sports Edition.  pp 129.)

Once there lived two boys called Harold and Dankata at the Kaikohe rugby field. Harold had brown hair and Dankata had black hair.  Dankata had a special rugby ball and Harold had brown skin and Dankara had brown skin too. Dankata did a big kick, the ball went in the sky and the ball got in the tree. Dankata had to climb the big tree. The ball  popped out. Dankata starts running away. The two boys had fun and one of the boys had a stuck foot and he threw the ball and then they got Harold’s foot out of the hole. Harold kicked the ball in Dankata’s face. The boys had fun kicking the special ball and he couldn’t get his gumboot out of the deep deep hole.  He had red boots with a black and white rugby jacket.  He was so fast he could get a try.  The two boys pulled Harold’s gumboot out of the hole.  They lived happily ever after.

Once  upon a  time  there lived  a  dog  Jay, Mitchel was the skinny  one and  Jack the fat  one.  It  was  12  o'clock. It  was  loud  Jay  was  playing in the mud.   “Pass  it  to  me " said Jack,  “no  I  will  kick it to  you " yelled Mitchel.   So  he  did  and the  boot  landed  on  Jack's  face  but  he  took  it  of f and  ran  to  the  try  line, then he tripped  and  Mitchel scored  the  try.

All blacks
Once there lived two Ohaeawai football players, who played for the Warriors and the All Blacks. The All Blacks cheered for them. The skinny one is called Shon Joshin. The fat one is called Johnny Bo who has a dog and it is lying in the cow poo. The cow stood on Johnny Bo, he had to go to the hospital. Then Shon Joshin had to go back to the NRL.  Johnny Bo got back from the hospital and he could play rugby again but Shon Joshin wasn't there.
By Brooklyn

Once upon a time it was a sunny day. The fat dude was Fin and he slipped over the ball, Then the ball hit Fin in the face. Fin fell over and Jack kicked the ball very high. Jack got hit from the ball then Fin got up and he picked up Jack . They went to McDonald's, Fin and Jack got chips and pudding.

The World Cup
Once there lived two rugby players called Mitchel and
Jack. Jack was the strongest at rugby. Mitchell was the fastest at rugby. They played at Ohaeawai rugby club. Jack was a fat wide man, Mitchell was a skinny tall man.

One day Mitchell and Jack played for the All Blacks. They were playing against England. The All Blacks star Jack ran and bowled England over and scored a try. Next Mitchell stepped England and he scored a try too. Then England got the ball and nearly scored a try but Mitchell and Jack saved the try.

Finally they scored a two man try and they got the World Cup and that was the end of the rugby.

Playing Rugby

Once there lived two boys called Cole and Rick who liked to go to the ruby field to play rugby. Cole was skinny and white. Rick was fat and brown. They both wore black gumboots when they played rugby.

One Sunday morning at the rugby game, the people were cheering for Cole and Rick’s teams. Cole scored five tries and Rick scored seven tries. Cole’s team lost the first half. Rick’s team lost the second half and the score was even.

At the end with a minute to play. Cole kicked the ball into the air. Coles gumboot landed into Rick's face then he landed into a big pile of cow poo. It went slop then Cole said to Rick, “are you alright?”

Stinky Boys

Once there were two little boy’s, their names were Lukas and Finn. They played at Ohaeawai rugby club. Lukas was fat and as tall as a tree. He was very good at kicking rugby balls. Fin was skinny, they were both very, very stinky. They had a black and white dog, his name was Max. He liked to roll in cow poo.

One day at rugby it started pouring with rain. They did not have any towels. So they got drenched with rain. They like to be stinky but the stinky was gone. They did not like it at all. They ran to the trash and they got as stingy as possible.

All the other people ran away blocking their noses. But Lukas and Fin were so excited and happy.

Playing rugby

Once two little boy’s were playing rugby in Ohaeawai. They were called Max and Ben. Max was the smart one and Ben was the hairy one. Ben did not know how to play rugby at all so Max trained Ben. “Oh no!”yelled Max. “There is cow poop behind you!” Flop! Ben slipped in the poo.
“I told you!” laughed Max. “Hahaha. You slipped in cow poo!”
“I’m going home.’’ Shouted Ben.
